You Like Me, You Really Like Me?

I was amazed to get the news last month that my audio play The Last Call was nomimated for 2017 Audio Verse Awards. It’s a humbling and motivating feeling to try something new and get recognized for it.

My thanks and overwhelming gratitude go to one of my oldest friends and continual collaborator Michael Aquino and his fellow Cocotazo Audio Theatre founder Dania Ramos for getting me involved in the first place.

Now comes news that my play and our song that inspired the play, Blood Heart,” are among the finalists for the honors. I penned the lyrics and put them in the capable hands of Aquino, who wrote the music for (and performed) the song that plays a pivotal role in the audio fiction.

The Last Call is among the five finalists in the Best Production for a Self-contained, Dramatic, Production category. The song Blood Heart earned a nod in the category Best Music for a Self-contained, Dramatic, Production.

You may note Aquino is up for two other songs in that category (for Hot Drinks and The Cocotazo Audio Theatre Festival). He rounds his nominations out (to 6 total!) in the engineering categories, noted for his hard work on my play as well as for Hot Drinks and Something Inside That Head of Yours.

Cocotazo also garnered recognition for writers Dania Ramos for Hot Drinks and Tanya Perez for Rincón. Please vote across the Cocotazo party line wherever you see these names. The work they are doing is important.
