“What is all this sweet work worth…”

“I can’t actually ‘make it rain’…” Fengari said jokingly on his last transmission home...
— from Me and My Moon Man
Thus begins a short story of mine currently featured at Made Up Words. Prompted by these lines in the 1820 Percy Bysshe Shelley poem Love’s Philosophy:
...the sunlight clasps the earth,
And the moonbeams kiss the sea—
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?
I took the celestial mentions to heart and spun a tale that touches the world of science fiction but centers on the tender yet recently-fragile relationship between a daughter and her father… who happens to be an astronaut.
Having loved his work on the story “Autonomy” — a well-crafted sci-fi response and a featured selection for The Coffeelicious’ April Writing Prompt (based on my own two-sided short story “Made My Heart Race”) — I was excited to work with Grey Drane 🌀… who happens to be an astronaut 😉 I mean, edited the story.
He was gracious enough to comment on the work which he helped guide:
“Science fiction is my genre of choice, and it was great reading and working on a story that brings a bit more humanity to the genre. Ernio writes a lot of different stuff, and he always makes for a very enjoyable read.”
