Hey Sirius XM, Can I Get Just ONE Music Channel About Women?

I love music. My wife and daughter as well. I never dreamed I’d pay for radio, but…

As a paying subscriber of Sirius XM for almost two years now, I don’t imagine “going back.” I love the wonderful (basically ad-free) satellite stream that fills our car rides every day. It’s a luxury, but one that is worth it for the sheer variety of music alone — and that’s not even including the comedy, talk, news and other audio content I have readily available at my fingertips.

Last summer you ran a special “Limited Edition” channel for “Yacht Rock” — which was amazing! Who doesn’t love rolling down the windows and blasting “Yah Mo B There” or anything with Loggins? (No, Siriusly who? I don’t want to know them). Anyway, I realized with the exception of maybe Tennille of “Captain &…” fame, it may have just as well been called The S.S. Sausagefest. It was song after song of JUST dudes.

It made me think, in the time I have been a subscriber, I only recalled one female singer (Barbara Streisand) ever being the focus of one of those special “Limited” runs. I’m not even saying a full 24/7 channel dedicated to one artist.

Those, by the way, are STRICTLY for dudes it appears: The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, The Grateful Dead and Garth Brooks. Add Neil Diamond and Tom Petty if you include the additional channels available on streaming devices. (I’ll exclude your stations that are named for other music men: Jimmy Buffett, Steven Van Zandt, Ozzy Osbourne, Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Eminem, Kirk Franklin, B.B. King and Frank Sinatra.)

Then it hit me, you have a station named “Venus!” A word which, in every other facet of popular culture (the goddess, the book Men are from Mars…, the clothing line, the ancient Greek statue, the tennis star, even the shaving product) evokes one meaning: Woman. But no, not even Venus is about women.

I’m not understanding this. It’s certainly not for lack of options.

Do you need a list of female recording artists?

I don’t have the resources you guys do, but I could probably spend an entire day just writing down names of women who have plenty of songs you already play on other…
