a way she hadn’t been before

Her eyes struck a chord in me
like the first notes of a symphony
Her gaze as she made
her way in from the corridor
Her remiss demeanor
almost made me miss seeing her
But by chance I glanced
as she stood just inside the door
Thinking back on it now
I can understand how
My glare made her aware of me
In a way she hadn’t been before
Her cheeks seemed to blush
and I never felt such a rush
When she leapt and stepped
towards me from across the floor
My heart began to race
then I could see it in her face
Her eyes grew in size
Like clouds when it’s about to pour
Her first shot made such a boom
it felt like it shook the room
It was a shock that rocked
before the fear set into the core
I stood there in silence
never knowing from violence
Just stunned by her guns
and perhaps by what was in store
The second shot grazed me
much to my amazement
I was struck by my luck
and then by bullet three and four
The first ruptured my spleen
the next exited clean
Passing through and through
I passed out in all the uproar
Fortunately for my sake
I was left just in her wake
Not amounting her body count:
killing 12, injuring dozens more
Her rise struck accord in me
like the coda of a symphony
No rougher outcome, I suffered from
gunshot wounds, but from an inner war
